PPM takes part in Operation Respect Community Clear Up Day in West Cumbria

We were delighted to be part of Operation Respect Community Clear Up Day at Salterbeck in Workington on the 9th August, working in partnership with Riverside, Allerdale Borough Council and all other local agencies involved.

It was one of a number of events being coordinated by the Allerdale Local Focus Hub, a partnership between various organisations such as Cumbria Police, Cumbria Fire & Rescue Service, Cumbria County Council, and local housing associations, Riverside, Home Group, Westfield and Castles & Coasts.

The Salterbeck event was led by Riverside, one of our Housing Association clients. The event gave members of the local community the chance to engage with representatives of all the agencies involved and to highlight issues within their areas such as housing, homelessness, crime prevention, fire safety, how to budget, financial support, health & wellbeing and how to create a cleaner, greener Allerdale.

There were fun activities for the children, including a litter pick with a free ice cream reward, which was fantastic in the hot sunshine.

Skips were provided at the event to help tackle fly-tipping issues, with ourselves, Bell Group & others contributing towards these so we had extra capacity for all the collections.

Our PPM volunteers Cameron & Steve worked non-stop throughout the day collecting bulky items & rubbish from homes on the estate. With five skips filled creating a cleaner Allerdale, we think they deserved their ice creams!

All PPM employees have the opportunity to take a days paid leave to volunteer for a charity of their choice or get involved in planned activities in the local communities. 

Steve, our PPM operative, really enjoyed taking part in the clear up day and said;

"It was a great day and I was glad to be part of it.  I enjoyed helping people that are not in a great position to move rubbish as they don't have great health, so being able to get rid of the waste for the elderly etc. was brilliant. 

It was great working as a team and making everywhere cleaner" 

We received some fantastic feedback from our client, Riverside;
