There are lots of first aid courses available for adults but children can also make a difference in an emergency situation. The Flat Stan First Aid Workshops are designed specifically for children, to give them these essential life skills and the confidence to know what to do if anything was to happen to family and friends. The workshop is enriching, engaging and fun.

The fantastic Natalie from Little Lifers delivered the Flat Stan First Aid Workshop for children in years 3 & 4 at the Holme St Cuthbert School and covered:

• What to do in an emergency
• Getting help
• What to do if somebody collapses
• What to do if somebody is not breathing - CPR
• Burns
• Bleeds
• Nose Bleeds
• Lumps and Bumps
• Choking

At the end of the workshop all the children were delighted to receive a Flat Stan book, certificate and sticker in a mini awards ceremony.

Beth Nicholls, our Communications and Development Officer went along to the session and said: “We are proud to be able to sponsor the workshop and provide an opportunity for the children to learn these valuable life skills. It’s ideal for students at this particular school as it is a very rural area and many live in remote villages or farms and so if an emergency was to happen they will have the knowledge and confidence to know what to do and get help”

“It was a fun, interactive session for the children who seemed to love it and soaked up all the information. I’m confident that they are all now first class first aiders.”

Morgan Sindall have been coordinating the Little Lifers / Flat Stan First Aid in Schools initiative and so far a grand total of 1194 children in Copeland and Allerdale have taken part thanks to local businesses sponsoring the workshops.
