The day was organised by the community team at Your Derwent and Solway and the Hillside residents group to coincide with the country-wide ‘Clean for the Queen’ campaign. The campaign aims to clear up Britain before Her Majesty the Queen’s 90th birthday and the team from Keep Britain Tidy hope to get more than one million people involved making it the UK’s biggest ever litter-pick during the special clean-up weekend on the 4th, 5th and 6th March 2016.

There were also skips positioned in the Hillside and Pecklewell communities for residents to use.

There was a free lunch provided for all who took part in the local All Souls Church Hall and there were also craft activities and games for the children to enjoy which PPM donated various prizes for.

PPM’s Managing Director Gordon McGregor took part in the litter pick along with Beth Nicholls our Communications and Development Officer to promote the start of PPM’s new staff volunteering programme. In 2016 PPM will be giving each of our employees one day’s leave to volunteer for a charity of their choice or take part in planned volunteering activities in the local communities and environment throughout Cumbria and Yorkshire.

This is an excellent way of using our employees various skills to make a real difference in our communities and also provides the opportunity for them their selves to build self-confidence, gain additional skills and experience, meet new people and gain a sense of satisfaction from the work that they do.
